LCI Delivers Hydraulic Design for Rebuilt Finsbury Park Clubhouse

In response to the significant flood damage sustained during the February 2022 Brisbane floods, Brisbane City Council undertook the redevelopment of the Finsbury Park Clubhouse to restore and enhance facilities for the Gold Crest Cricket Club, Commercial Hockey Club, and wider community. The redevelopment consolidated two existing structures into a single flood-resilient, architecturally designed facility that improves accessibility, functionality, and long-term durability.

LCI Consultants was engaged as the hydraulic services design engineer for the project, delivering fully coordinated hydraulic solutions from concept through to detailed design. Our scope included the design and documentation of all sanitary and water services within the property boundary, including:

  • Sanitary drainage, trade waste management and roof water drainage, along with rainwater harvesting systems and hot/cold potable water supply to all fixtures and amenities.
  • Fire services design including fire hydrants, hose reels, and portable fire extinguishers to meet operational and compliance requirements.
  • Dedicated water service connections to irrigation systems, external hose taps, and public drinking water fountains.
  • Coordination and documentation for the demolition and removal of redundant water and sanitary infrastructure connected to the former clubhouses.
  • Preparation and lodgement of certified drawings and associated documentation to Brisbane City Council’s Plumbing Department for plumbing approval.
  • Cost estimating at both schematic and detailed design stages to support informed decision-making and budget validation.

The new facility incorporates:

  • Two adaptable change rooms with dedicated referee and first aid spaces.
  • A multifunctional clubroom with commercial kitchen, bar, and cold room.
  • Accessible public amenities and administration spaces.
  • Integrated equipment storage.
  • A separate storage shed and eco water harvesting system.
  • Terraces and spectator viewing areas with enhanced amenity and visual connection to the playing fields.

To ensure resilience against future flood events, the building was designed with elevated floor levels, durable flood-compatible materials, steel truss roofing, core-filled blockwork, and efficient stormwater and rainwater management systems.

Jointly funded by Brisbane City Council and the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, the Finsbury Park Clubhouse now provides a robust, community-focused space that supports local sport, recreation, and social connection.
