The University of New South Wales (UNSW) has long been at the forefront of standardised teaching space design through its CATS rooms (Centrally Allocated Teaching Spaces) program. The G25 Educational Building established a new benchmark for teaching and learning environments, catering to regular roster student classrooms of 30, 60, 90, and 200-250 pax.

Key technology innovations included:

  • LED displays installed in every teaching space, replacing traditional projection systems.
  • A fully converged AVoIP architecture integrated with the University’s network.
  • Hearing Augmentation via Auracast.
  • AI-enabled automated camera switching and voice-lift technology in every classroom, creating fully hybrid learning environments where remote participants can clearly see and hear both presenters and students.

To validate the design, LCI utilised 3D visualisation software to model each teaching space, optimising camera placement and quantities to ensure presenters and students remained clearly visible for hybrid teaching scenarios.

The G25 building incorporates a diverse range of specialist spaces such as:

  • Technology-enabled learning spaces with integrated AV collaboration pods.
  • Security Operations Room featuring professional control room solutions with large curved LED video wall.
  • Purpose built research facilities for the School of Psychology.
  • Workplace meeting rooms.
