Rethinking HVAC System Flexibility for Future Hospitals

As societies and technologies advance, so too do sophisticated control responses to infectious disease outbreaks.

Evolving alongside the healthcare landscape, these innovations uncover new complexities and challenges for healthcare planners. Our Principal Engineer, Simon Witts, is the co-author of the Engineering Guidelines for Healthcare Facilities, published in June 2020 by the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority (VHHSBA).

On Wednesday 16th Sept, Simon presented on the design of HVAC Systems for Healthcare facilities, and his recent research on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies of aerosol particles through these systems. Drawing on his engineering experience during COVID-19 pandemic, he illustrated issues faced by current healthcare facilities and a new perspective on flexibility.

Here’s the video recording of LCI Principal Simon Witts’ presentation, ‘Rethinking HVAC System Flexibility for Future Hospitals’ at the 2020 Future Proofing Hospitals online event.
